Most admired shared services center

On the heels of being selected Best Mature Shared Services Center for 2003, Rinker Materials has now been named the Top Most Admired Shared Services Organisation.

Readers of the global publication Shared Services News nominated the shared services organisations (SSOs) they admired most. Nominations came in from around the globe and included high profile companies such as Bell South, Hewlett-Packard, Procter & Gamble and McDonald’s. Of the many nominations, the Most Admired listing was pared down to the top 12, which appeared in the Dec/Jan issue of Shared Services News.

Headed by Ira Fialkow, the Rinker Materials Shared Services Center is based in West Palm Beach, Florida and includes Information Technology (led by Bill Gearhart), Business Services (led by Rick Beilhart) and Human Resources.

Flexible and efficient communications

Readymix Holdings is currently installing a new Two Way Radio System throughout the concrete and quarry businesses. It will provide a safe, current and productive environment to assist business growth and customer service. The standardisation of radio and network communications will also reduce costs, provide more flexible and efficient communications and enable the business to share network resources.

Vertel, a national network company, will provide rental, supply and distribution. An extensive MPT 1327 trunking network will provide coverage to all Readymix metro businesses in all states (excluding NT & Tas). This platform will enable trucks to roam throughout the trunking network within each state (similar to a mobile phone environment) with group and emergency call features built in.

As well as a trunking channel, all radios will have a Simplex channel enabling trucks to communicate on a local frequency channel, which is often required on large project building sites.

Reports from the business cells already on the network are very positive. We now have an efficient, cost effective and very reliable radio communication system. We know where our trucks are and what our costs will be, says Scott Wiseman, production manager Newcastle Cell.

All radios have a Uart board fitted for future Global Positioning System implementation.
