Rinker Materials’ operation in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was recognised not once, but three times at the 66th Annual New Mexico Miners Association’s annual conference in September.
The La Cienga mine just south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, was awarded a plaque for outstanding safety accomplishment in the small open pit category and a certificate of recognition for no incidents or accidents during a one-year period. Congratulations to Ernie Escalante and Jimmy Holder for their dedication to operating a safe and well maintained plant.
Rinker Materials was also one of five companies to be commended for “Safety Innovation” in recognition of our job hazard analysis program. LaMar Martin, Nevada region safety manager, attended as a guest speaker and gave a presentation on the program.
Helping to keep us at the top of our technical game, Readymix recently hit another home run winning in another research grant.
Readymix and RMIT University (Melbourne, Aus- tralia) won the competitive Linkage Grant through the Australian Research Council for research into deflection prediction in posttensioned concrete slab systems. This is a major market area for Readymix and a significant issue for Readymix customers.
“The issue arose when the designer of Q1 tower (pictured) - an 82 storey tower, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, renowned as the highest residential tower in the southern hemisphere - mentioned their difficulty in predicting slab deflections for that building - a common problem in building construction,” says Daksh Baweja, national business development manager. “We commenced some research and development on this project with RMIT University and due to the complex engineering issues involved, we put forward an application to ARC for linkage support. This linkage grant provides us with an opportunity to investigate this issue further on other building projects and differentiate ourselves from our competitors.”
