Wouldn’t you agree that the best way to start a New Year is to achieve your resolutions as soon as possible? The Rinker Materials Florida Materials Division did just this when the team rang in the New Year by breaking their record for the largest mat pour in the state of Florida.
Trump Royale - a US$180 million, 55 storey high-rise constructed by Michael and Gil Dezer and named after real estate mogul Donald Trump - took a massive 13,511 cubic yards [10,330 cubic metres] during a 20-hour continuous pour in the Sunny Isles area of Miami.
The demanding project involved several months of highly orchestrated planning between Coastal Construction Group and Rinker Materials. It required two shifts, 190 trucks and 358 drivers from the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Coastal regions.
An impressive procession of red concrete trucks lined the streets for the 2 a.m. start, and averaged 676 cubic yards [516 cubic metres] of 7,000 psi concrete per hour. The 11-foot [3 metres] thick slab measured 138 feet [42 metres] by 270 feet [82 metres] with eight boom pumps stationed around the perimeter of the foundation. Technical services and the quality control staff were on hand to assure the proper slump was achieved for the highest quality project.
“The key to the whole project was teamwork. We met with cement, aggregate and transport divisions to make sure everyone clearly understood the supplies that were needed to perform this job,” says Ernesto Castillo, Dade County region operations manager. “Aggregate and cement divisions supplied the seven concrete batching plants with sufficient materials, never allowing them to come even close to low levels.”
“Out of my 23 years with Rinker Materials and 30 years total in the industry, this was the best pour I have seen,” says Bobby Albanese, Broward County operations manager. Thanks to their efforts, the entire day was not only a success but completed safely. Well done to everyone involved.
