Congratulations to the team at Readymix’s Kawana plant, located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, who recently won two awards for best environmental practice at the Queensland Cement, Concrete and Aggregate Environmental Awards in Brisbane.
Congratulations also to our operations at Tweed Heads which also won a new award for Occupational Health and Safety excellence. Kawana plant is proud to be one of the greenest plants ever constructed in the industry. The plant boasts a myriad of green initiatives such as using Caloundra City Councils’ wastewater to save valuable mains drinking water. This also helps reduce ongoing water costs for both Readymix and the local community.
The plant also has an integrated water-recycling system that incorporates a truck wash out facility complete with full water monitoring and sampling. The plant was designed to blend in with the surrounding high-class industrial estate. It blends in so well that people looking to visit the plant often drive past.
Tweed Heads’ award was thanks to the Pedestrian Visitor Access project. This project, designed by plant personnel and management, keeps visitors safe while on site.
The awards were well attended by all major and independent concrete producers in Queensland. Kawana is now nominated for Cement, Concrete and Aggregate Association National Awards in 2006. Good luck!
